ERA 03:36
The seasons are now changing and so is my world too Away with broken hearts cause love's in hot pursuit I found myself a rose after the stormy skies made way Now Summer's in the air so let's make some history Now time stops and we're facing Something beyond our own imagination And I can't see what's in front of me But my heart is screaming to Take a leap into the unknown In my arms you'll find yourself a home In the rubble you will see the brighter little side of everything Hand in hand start life anew, I'll give anything I can to you Give me the light Darling when you can't sleep I will sing you lullabies And if you're feeling lonely know I'm right here by your side Can I keep your kisses cause they're just the sweetest thing Your wisdom and your deep soul are your greatest qualities Now time stops and we're facing Something beyond our own imagination And I can't see what's in front of me But my heart is screaming to Take a leap into the unknown In my arms you'll find yourself a home In the rubble you will see the brighter little side of everything Hand in hand start life anew, I'll give anything I can to you Give me the light Riding a shooting star was fine But now I've got something new on my mind Won't you hop onto this out of control ride Take a good, hard look into my eyes In the rubble you will see the brighter little side of everything Take a leap into the unknown In my arms you'll find yourself a home In the rubble you will see the brighter little side of everything Hand in hand start life anew, I'll give anything I can to you Give me the light, we'll take it home

Won't you please take my heart and hold it carefully it's meant for you Don't leave, never leave cause you're the reason that I wake up start to move I need you in my world, you're the simple joys, the laughter in my days And the feeling when I see you is pure bliss all of my love is sent your way And I found myself a home After Winter's war it bore me to the bone Many cold days come, many cold days gone Many cold days gone, many cold days to come Laying on our riverbed bundled in your neck Finding words to whisper soft for the time we don't have left Breathe me in, I'm nothing but the wind Darling don't stray long, my pleas echo on and on Won't you please take my heart and hold it carefully it's meant for you When I leave, remember me, the girl who got you up when you didn't want to move And you, you in my world, you were my simple joys, the laughter in my days And this feeling when I think of you is pure bliss, I'll send all of my love your way

Meet my disguise, behind burning eyes Expose my world of lies, my prize One day you'll find you never really knew me That you couldn't see right through me Oh what a horrible surprise And you love me, love me, love me, love me, love me But you couldn't understand what you are to me You're a part of me and the start of me You're my everything but you'll never know As I fall into your arms, tell me it's real As my heart pounds in our ears, how does it feel And just before you go, won't you let me know What I need to change in me And as you walk away, I'm wishing you would say Anything At All A little less conversation in the name of infatuation A room with two lone kids Almost taste the sweetness of a dreamt up kiss From the passion of your soft lips But I know that's not what this is And I hold you, warm you, love you, love you, love you All of life's daunting flaws seem to fall through But you wake up in regret, you worry and you fret I'm not who you thought you held so tight As I fall into your arms, tell me it's real As my heart pounds in our ears, how does it feel And just before you go, won't you let me know What I need to change in me And as you walk away, I'm wishing you would say Anything At All You're the soul who brings out the light in me The girl whose smile shines in adversity You're a dream so far away that I think of day by day I love your love but God it drives me fucking crazy As I fall into your arms, tell me it's real As my heart pounds in our ears, how do you feel And just before you go, won't you let me know What I need to change in me And as you walk away, I'm wishing you would say Anything At All

Beautiful dark skies shrouded by the mist Unleashing demons, plaster remnants on my fist Little paper square, get this shit out of my hair Tame me and take me and break me the same She killed the prospect of love for me She lied when she said that I was free Though blades and pins have left her scars They've also cut deep in my heart These lost souls, they do show, the pain of it all And as you are stumbling, we'll all watch you fall Where do you run to when there is nowhere to run Everybody wants some fun Where do you go when everybody wants to go Everybody wants to know Hey, it's my life And hey, I'm just fine Why do we fall when we're supposed to have it all Well why does every motherfucker fall Turn your head and use your eyes and give the world an analyze And target all their lies Why don't we target all their lies I said: Let's target all their lies Ignorance is bliss Am I the only one who smells the shit Am I the only one who smells the shit Hey I'm just fine Pretty darlin don't you worry about me Pretty darlin don't you worry about me Worry about yourself

The March 02:59
Ice cold air flies into the town in which the boy lies Entering his state of mind For the hundredth time The reddest skin and his chapped lips Are hardly side effects of the brutal wind Eroding what is left of him And he's falling down He wants to float but only drowns In the blood of broken hearts Weeping through the moonless night Yet he puts up a fight The next day comes and with it sun The boy lies basking in what seems a fight thats won Then it starts to pour Can't bear it anymore As the rain builds, his dreams are killed The faces in his life are all but gone There's no one left for counting on No one left to make you strong And he's falling down He wants to float but only drowns In the blood of broken hearts Weeping through the moonless night Yet he puts up a fight God knows why And he lives in the stars, that don't take him very far But with a hell of a heart, pain is only a scar

Your stare into my pupils feels like you spit into my eye And you keep asking me questions but the answers won't arrive I'm a burned out, walking zombie and I've come to eat your brains You could kill me yet another time, but it always ends the same As I empty out my wallet, I feel a tremor in my soul Though you think I'll cry right as you leave, I've got things so under control Another gorgeous lie Name Your Price Lie and say you love me so that I can fall asleep But I've sworn to make no promises, the only promise that I'll keep We're bound in blood to face our fate There's no such thing as a clean slate You can only swim so long As I empty out my wallet, I feel a tremor in my soul Though you think I'll cry right as you leave, I've got things so under control Another gorgeous lie Name Your Price Take Your prize Name Your price TAKE YOUR PRIZE

If you're longing for lips, if you'd care to reminisce I'll be at home rather alone, dreaming about your kiss If loneliness should fall on your beautiful soul I'm waiting for you constantly, I'll only stop if you tell me to leave I'm a lonely hearted kid Wishing for a matching heart to find its way in Beauties hover all the time but they just aren't quite right I'm looking for someone just like you When I find such pure truth in an honest girl like you Why must it be that you can't see I'm right in front of you waiting Our world is so damn lost, we have to grab onto something For those of us who have no one, let these echoed words be sung I'm a lonely hearted kid Wishing for a matching heart to find its way in Beauties hover all the time but they just aren't quite right I'm looking for someone just like you (instrumental break) I'm a lonely hearted kid Wishing for a matching heart to find its way in Beauties hover all the time but they just aren't quite right I'm looking for someone just like you

Lions 03:22
This will be your lullaby, inspired by the dimming skies The backdrop to our love Words can try as messengers but lips and eyes will better learn The secrets of our souls Further from it all we run Staring straight into the sun Lock the door behind the moment Taste the sweet and let it soak in We're lions riding shooting stars, we're almost there but oh so far The journey is the story Dim the lights down even more, the creaking of wood on the floor Existing in your glory Further from it all we run Staring straight into the sun Lock the door behind the moment Taste the sweet and let it soak in And I'm not that fool boy in the video on your phone Spent many months on the run figuring out on my own, I've grown And you, you're everything I seek in a life My speech is slurred, my vision blurred and I'm more than just alright Further from it all we run Staring straight into the sun Lock the door behind the moment Taste the sweet and let it soak in

Goodbye 03:15
Before I tell you I love you, I'll tell you I'm scared The cold sweat is running, my heart unprepared For the war that is coming, the sun that is dying Staring at the millions of reasons why this boy is crying Yearning the growth of the moment, a freezing of time Your hair through my fingers, your sweet lips upon mine Wither away, gorgeous rainy day You were bound to leave so soon I don't wanna say, don't wanna face goodbye I'm still pondering, still questioning why Why the walls must fall down at the end of the day Leaving ashes for shelter, leading us into harm's way Nothing can stay Ohana that is mine, must watch as I do find The struggles of becoming a man, you all nod your head like you think you understand But the tattooed tears of a 14 year old mark an earlier version of the same story told We break into our age I don't wanna say, don't wanna face goodbye I'm still pondering, still questioning why Why the walls must fall down at the end of the day Leaving ashes for shelter, leading us into harm's way Turn the radio on when I'm gone, and darlin start to groove along Blast your speakers out in my memory The dark is real, the pain we feel But you keep your hands right on that wheel Don't you go crying about me I don't wanna say, don't wanna say goodbye I don't wanna say, don't wanna say goodbye..

about

Lots of words:

A bildungsroman is a piece regarding the literal/mental/emotional journey of a protagonist, and often times is considered a “coming of age” story. This thought, paired up with an image I took of the Chicago skyline from the lake, quickly became the concept of my coming of age story: Roman Buildings. (I’ve most likely had more creative ideas at other times in my life, but the partial ridiculousness of the title was something that was too sweet to let go.) Almost all of the music and lyrics on the album deal with growing up and stumbling from adolescent life to a somewhat more adult lifestyle, whether it be the ups and downs of going through high school, being in relationships that thrive or crash & burn (lovers and friends), the departure of my family/loved ones, good and bad coping mechanisms, or countless other themes. It’s a look into my life over the past few years, with themes that I hope others can relate to on some level.
Within the bildungsroman concept lies a story with a bit of a clearer concept: a protagonist journeys through the cycle of a year’s seasons and faces the bliss of summer’s sun and the harshness of winter’s wind. The album begins with a song titled “ERA” that describes a story of summer love, but as Autumn approaches and the warmth and light of summer begin to fade, the themes get heavier. Themes of heartbreak and desperation accompany the Fall season in "Our Heart" & "Anything At All" and things take a plunge for the worst as a brutal Wisconsin winter sweeps over the protagonist. In the long, cold nights of winter ("Das Winterlude", "Lucy", "The March"), the subject matter begins to deal largely with longing, depression, poor coping mechanisms, and an overall lack of hope for the future. But as the album progresses, spring is upon us, and a more uptempo feel arises ("Name Your Price", "Just Like You") though pain is by no means gone as winter lingers around. The summer finally makes its way back around and the protagonist is freed of the chains that the colder seasons shackled him in and love is once again in the air ("Lions"). On the last track of the album though, “Goodbye”, things take a turn for the melancholy one last time. This was an essential track for me to put last on the album because it deals largely with the most recent chapter of my life: having to say goodbye to my family who moved to Texas, some of my best friends heading off to college, and also ending a chapter with a special soul who I spent the majority of the summer with.
Creating and developing Roman Buildings has been such a gratifying and life-changing experience, and though much of my life recently has been spent cooped up inside working on it, I have no regrets. I believe that people can jam out and dance to a song’s beat--which is always a great time--but I think music can also take on a deeper role as medicine and help push people through the darkest of times or simply motivate them to get through other walks of life so that they can pop in their earbuds later in the day. To me, life is incomplete without music, and this process of making Roman Buildings has kept my head up and a light in my heart through all of the darkness life has thrown and is throwing my way.
